Buddy Calls 911 and Saves Owner’s Life
by: Rover411
According to Scottsdale, AZ police, a German Shepherd named Buddy saved his owner’s life by dialing 911 when he began having a seizure. In the recorded 911 call placed Wednesday, September 10, 2008, Buddy is heard whimpering and barking after Chris Scott, the dispatcher, answered the phone and repeatedly asks if the caller needed help. Buddy also barked loudly when police arrive about three minutes after the call was placed. An officer is heard asking Buddy's owner, Joe Stalnaker, if he is OK. Buddy made two other 911 calls when Stalnaker was having seizures, the first last August.
Buddy is a trained assistance dog and Stalnaker got him through Michigan-based Paws with a Cause, which trains assistance dogs nationwide for people with disabilities. Stalnaker adopted Buddy when he was 8 weeks old and trained him to get him the phone or press programmed buttons until a 911 operator is on the line if he began to experience seizure symptoms.
According to Sgt. Mark Clark, Stalnaker spent two days in the hospital following the seizure and has recovered. Stalnaker's seizures are the result of a head injury he sustained about 10 years ago during a training exercise in the U.S. military.
Great job, Buddy!!!
