Winston, the Great Dane, Voted Milk-Bone Spokes Dog 2009
by: Rover 411
All eyes, ears and tails were on the "The Bonnie Hunt Show," when a two-year-old Great Dane from Kronenwetter, WI named Winston was chosen as the first-ever Milk-Bone SpokesDog. Winston, along with Wyatt, a 3-year-old boxer from Maryland, and Ruby, a 5-year-old pit bull mix from Minnesota were the top three finalists.
Winston, weighing in at 150 pounds and 36 inches tall at the shoulders will be treated to a one-year, $100,000 contract and a lifetime supply of dog snacks -- Milk-Bone brand, of course. In addition, he will be featured on the iconic red boxes of Milk-Bone dog treats and will serve as an advocate for the Milk-Bone Canine Heroes program. The program is a long-standing, national outreach program that provides canine assistance dogs to people with disabilities and police dogs to law enforcement agencies.
Milk-Bone asked pet parents to enter their most memorable "Milk-Bone moments," either by picture or video submissions, along with an essay for its 100-year anniversary celebration in 2008. The company received several thousand entries, and 100 finalists were featured on www.milkbone.com, where visitors voted for their favorite.
"He is so goofy. He's such a clown," Winston’s owner, Melisa Ruppert said. "Not a day goes by that he doesn't make us laugh."
