Dog Health: Diabetes

Diabetes Treatment for Your Dog
by: John Thompson

Dog diabetes can become a serious disease if not diagnosed and treated early. Complications at a later time can include nerve damage as well as blindness. A veterinarian can prescribe medications that can stabalize the disease and help your dog live a more normal life. Injections are one method of treatment, or a course of tablets depending on the seriousness of the disease.

Insulin

Insulin injections can be given in small amounts at the start of dog diabetes treatment so that the blood sugar levels can begin to slowly stabilize. In some cases your dog may need to be treated while staying in the hospital for a few days. If the disease is more stable, then your dog can be treated as an outpatient.

While your dog stays in hospital it will be important for your vet to monitor your dog's reaction to the insulin injections so that the correct dosage can be decided upon. When this has been determined you will be able to monitor your dog at home by testing his urine and/or blood.

Diet

One of the most important things to remember for a dog with diabetes is that a strictly controlled diet is critical. A well balanced diet for your dog can increase it's life expectancy greatly.

A diabetic dog should be eating meals that are high in fiber and low to moderate in carbohydrates. Cook the meals at home so you know exactly what your dog is eating.

Natural Remedy for Dog Diabetes

Glucobalance is a natural remedy for treating diabetes in dogs. It helps control blood sugar levels and improves Insulin availability and production. It also reduces high cholesterol, boosts the immune system and increases general energy levels in your dog.

Glucobalance is a very effective treatment and can be used on it's own or in conjunction with prescription medicines from your vet.
