Q & A - High-Strung Border Collie
by: Lacey, Illinois

Q: Our 3 year old border collie, Oreo, competes in flyball tournaments and she is wired hours after racing. Would a massage settled down??

A: Oreo is hard-wired to be energetic. Use a very gentle touch to help relax your dog after competition. Start at the muzzle and work your way back to the tip of the tail. Working on one side at a time, gently squeeze the muscles down each front leg, work the rib cage, the hip area, and back leg, then repeat on the opposite side. Stand beside Oreo and work your fingers along the entire spine to the tip of the tail and give a little tug. This helps to realign the spine and is very relaxing. Oreo will settle down as she ages - in another 7 - 8 years you'll have a nice calm dog (LOL).
