Ask the Expert: Dog Communicator: Do Dogs Dream?

Q & A - Do Dogs Dream?

Q: Do dogs dream? If so, what do they typically dream about ? Things from their past (such as bad/good memories); things that happened during their day; things they saw; or something altogether different?

A: We have all seen our animals twitching, flinching, faux running and whimpering in their sleep from time to time. The animals tell me they have fantastic dreams. Some cats have told me of great adventures and hunting expeditions they have dreamed about and dogs have told me how they are running, chasing toys or dashing about. They have both good
and bad dreams just like we do. Most of it is fun and enjoyable for them. One of my cats Choo Choo leaped out of a deep sleep with a terrified look on her face. I asked her what was wrong and she told me she had 'fallen from a high tree branch' in her sleep. She was a bit shaken at first but quickly put it behind her. Most of their dreams are in vivid color and very exciting.
